Living When Killed – 1 -Avoiding Getting Pierced by Sunder

Gurren Lagann’s “Sunder” combo is one of the scariest but also most hype things to see in Weiß Schwarz. No matter how cool the Sunder combo looks, players should aim for ways to survive.

What is Sunder?

In any card game, there are combos feared by every player and Weiß Schwarz is no exception. Sunder is a kill combo in which a player dumps the appropriate pieces into the Waiting Room, then removing all cards from your own board except for TENGEN TOPPA GURREN LAGANN. This allows the player to perform five attacks for a total of thirteen damage (without attacks on open or triggers). Considering that each clock level has seven damage, that is almost two levels out of four, leaving a very high chance of losing if the opponent gets the full combo off.

When Should you be Scared?

If the opponent is playing the red build of Gurren Lagann, Sunder should be expected. The Red build’s strongest asset is using the pieces that make up Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann to beat over the opponent while biding their time until they get to Level 3 and release the Sunder. Your best chance is to believe in the me that believes in you and apply the following handy tips to live through Sunder.

Tips and Tricks

  1. In general, Compression is one of the easiest ways to live. For those who are new/ haven’t read the page Advanced Weiss Terminologies, Compression involves minimizing the amount of characters in your deck as well as the amount of climaxes in your deck. This hypothetically means that you should be blocking at a higher chance as Sunder swings for pretty large amounts each attack. Every little block will help your odds of surviving one more turn!
  2. Never give your opponent a chance to Sunder! Sunder is a combo that must be played from Level 3. If you can get yourself in a position to beat them while they are at a high damage position from level 2, even if that means letting yourself hit dangerously close to losing at Level 3, you must take the opportunity!
  3. After Sunder, the opponent will be left with an empty board except for one Level 0. They will be quite weak and very easy to run over, in the position of having lived through Sunder attack as hard as you can to finish the game before they can reset a proper board.

With proper preparation, beating dangerous opponents will be a cinch. So long as you hone your knowledge and prevent tilt, your deck will help you survive through most dangerous situations.
